Training ship California State (IX-34)
At the Washington Navy Yard on 7 April 1932 after a cruise around South America from her home station on the West Coast.
While at Washington this newly-converted Merchant Marine training ship was to be inspected by government officials and her crew was to be received by President Hoover.

Training ship Golden State
Coming out of drydock at the Bethlehem Steel Company's Alameda Repair Yard at the end of November 1947 during her outfitting for merchant service as S.S. Isle of Patmos.
Note that most of her hull portholes and superstructure windows are in the process of being blanked out. Photographed by Albert C. Silveria of San Francisco.
