Shown during her long service as a passenger steamer on Lake Erie before conversion to USS Wolverine (IX-64).

Under conversion to USS Wolverine (IX-64) at Buffalo, New York, in early 1942.
The massive wooden superstructure has been removed, and all that is left about forecastle deck level is four boiler uptakes, a structure over the engine room, and the paddle boxes.
