
St. Johns, a 1098 gross ton coastal freight and passenger steamer, was built at Wilmington, Delaware, in 1878. Owned by C.H. St. Johns of Washington, D.C., she was chartered by the Navy in June 1917 for World War I service. Later assigned the registry ID # 3710, she operated as a fleet tender in the waters of the Fifth Naval District for her entire Naval career. USS St. Johns was decommissioned and returned to her owner in June 1919.
