Rosedale (American River Passenger Steamship, 1877).
Served as USS Rosedale (ID # 3079) in 1918-1919

Rosedale, a 938 gross ton wooden paddle-wheel river passenger steamship, was built 1877 at Norfolk, Virginia. She was chartered by the U.S. Navy in July 1918 and commissioned as USS Rosedale (ID # 3079). For the next eight months, as World War I approached its climax and the post-war era began, the steamer was used for local transport and freight service in the Delaware River area. She was returned to her owner at the end of March 1919.

Photographed by the Vincent-Mitchell Studios, Philadelphia and Baltimore.
This steamer was chartered by the Navy on 10 July 1918 and commissioned on 22 July as USS Rosedale (ID # 3079). She was returned to her owner on 31 March 1919.

The original print is in National Archives' Record Group 19-LCM.

Note: The Ships' Histories Branch of the Naval Historical Center holds one other photograph of the steamship Rosedale, probably taken prior to her World War I Navy service. She is seen from off her starboard bow while tied up in port with no activity visible on board. This print is mounted on the "SP" data card for USS Rosedale (ID # 3079).
